Pi Nyvall, Head of Scientific Affairs at Olmix, and PROTEUS project partner joined Seagriculture EU 2026 in Gothenburg as a keynote speaker, sharing insights from 30 years of seaweed research and experience across the seaweed value chain.
Project representation in Brussels
PROTEUS partner Olmix took part in Seagriculture EU 2026, held from 16 to 18 June 2026 in Gothenburg, Sweden. The conference brought together different stakeholders from companies, researchers to technology providers and other actors from the seaweed sector to discuss the current state and future direction of the European seaweed industry. Although, the conference initially started as a small event in 2026 Seagriculture EU 2026 welcomed 229 participants from 28 countries, with more than 40 speakers across six plenary sessions, one panel discussion and Seaweed Elevator Pitches. The event theme was under the topic “The European seaweed industry in transition: survival, scale and real impact.”
Possibilities to network and connect
A key contribution came from Pi Nyvall, Head of Scientific Affairs at Olmix, who delivered the keynote presentation “From Academy to Industry: 30 Years of Seaweed Research.” The keynote was a talk drawing on three decades of academic and applied research on seaweed and algae, with a focus on opportunities and challenges across the seaweed value chain, from harvesting and processing to applications in animal, plant and human uses.
In the PROTEUS project, Olmix contributes expertise on feed-sector applications, including the evaluation of regulatory compliance of biorefinery products such as kelp powder and seaweed extracts developed by Alginor ASA, as well as screening compatible products in in vitro models for potential feed applications.

After the keynote, the Seagriculture Conference thanked Pi Nyvall for sharing perspectives on the evolution of seaweed valorisation and the journey from scientific discovery to commercial application. They higlighted that her presentation explored opportunities and challenges across the value chain and underlined the role of scientific collaboration in developing effective products for agriculture and livestock.
The next Seagriculture will take place in Ostend, Belgium in June 2027.
