The PROTEUS project was presented at the CBE JU Cluster Projects’ Workshop on food & feed in Brussels in June 2026, where CBE JU-funded and related European projects discussed bio-based ingredients, market uptake, regulation and future collaboration.
Project representation in Brussels
PROTEUS took part in the CBE JU Cluster Projects’ Workshop on food & feed in Brussels, joining other CBE JU-funded and European projects for a full day of exchange on bio-based food and feed ingredients. The workshop focused on current developments in these markets and created space for projects to share their work, discuss common challenges and identify opportunities for collaboration.
The workshop was organised as part of Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking’s portfolio activities in the food and feed field. CBE JU funds innovative projects that develop and scale up the production of bio-based food and feed ingredients using agricultural, aquatic, biogenic CO₂ and other biomass sources. The event aimed to showcase recent developments, encourage knowledge exchange and strengthen connections among CBE JU-funded projects, Horizon Europe projects and other relevant European initiatives.
Possibilities to network and connect
On behalf of the PROTEUS consortium and coordinator Alginor ASA, Steinbeis Europa Zentrum presented the project during the workshop. The presentation introduced PROTEUS as a CBE JU flagship project working on the valorisation of brown macroalgae side streams for new bio-based value chains in Europe. It also addressed the project’s relevance for food and feed ingredients, including questions around scale-up, market adoption, regulation and industrial use cases.
PROTEUS also contributed to the poster and networking session. The event helped open new conversations with related projects and organisations, in which some expressed interest in future collaboration formats such as webinars or stakeholder engagement.
For PROTEUS, the workshop showed the value of project clustering in practice. Discussions around commercialisation, market uptake, regulatory challenges, collaboration and future research priorities are directly relevant for projects that aim to connect bio-based innovation with real applications. The Brussels workshop therefore offered not only a platform to present PROTEUS, but also a useful setting to learn from other initiatives working on similar questions across Europe.
